We all know that the displays are made up of tiny rectangular units called as 'pixels'. These pixels in combination comprises a picture. Usually the pixels are calculated per inch and indicated as ppi (pixels per inch). For example 400 ppi etc. Higher the ppi greater the display quality.

The simplified structure of Amoled display
As the name Amoled itself tells us the science behind this . In (Active Matrix Organic Light emitting diode) the pixels are active only on the coloured area whereas in black coloured area the pixels are tend to be in off that's why in an Amoled display the black are appeared to be inky and deep with excellent contrast.
In non pixelated areas the manufacturers place the Indisplay fingerprint scanner under the display and thus it reads our identity and unlock our mobile.
Apart from indisplay fingerprint scanner, other technologies such as screen lighting effects and screen clock also work with devices that have AMOLED display.
Screen lighting is a substitute to notification light in bezel less smartphones. When notifications come, the edge of the screen will glow with some colour.
Manufacturers place these glowing light emitting material in pixels that were kept off. That's why it is possible only in AMOLED display.
