The Exceptional Silence - Introverts

Is the silence exceptional? Of course yes!

"Solitude matters, and for some people it's the air they breathe"

This is a famous quote by Susan Cian. In this world, each human is different in some aspects. They are even similar in some aspects. But there are people who are drastically different from the so called 'normal' people. In what ways they are different? What are they called? In this article, we are going to see about these 'Special' people.

In our circle, we definitely came across people who are silent, shy and who like to be alone. They are called are 'Introverts'.

Who are introverts?

There are generally three kinds of people in the society. They are,
  • Extroverts
  • Ambiverts
  • Introverts
Extroverts are those people always active, heavily outspoken and always want to be in a social space. Generally in this society, these kind of people are always considered as a heroic and those born with a special talent.

Ambiverts are those people who are a perfect combination of Introverts and Extroverts. These people are considered to be the 'normal' people in this society.

Here comes the most special one called the Introverts. These are people who are mostly silent, quite shy, love to be alone and don't like to socialize much. These people are considered to have a deficiency with their birth.

According to a psychologist, Jonathan cheek there are four types of Introverts namely Social, anxious, thinking and restrained. But most of them are combination of the above four.

Is this really a deficiency?

The answer is 'no'. This is not a deficiency. This is a speciality. Introverts are silent. This does not mean that they don't like to talk instead they listen more. Introverts only begin to talk after becoming comfortable with the person whom they talk to.

If they met a new person first they will analyze the person internally by listening and if they felt comfortable they will begin to talk freely. But the society always misunderstand them as being rude and they don't like fellow humans.

They always considered as dull personalities. But they are not so.
Introverts prefer to be alone. This does not mean they are Antisocial. They can also socialize with others. But after that they need to recharge themselves by spending time alone and recollecting memories.

They generally don't prefer to go to a crowded party or functions that has people who are not so familiar with them. They only like to go there if there is a company for them, whom they already know.

This does not mean, introverts don't like parties and events. They like parties but they don't participate. They simply enjoy by observing others.
Introverts friends circle is small. This does not mean that they don't know how to make friends.

They make true friends and always have longtime relationship. There is a scientific theory for this. All our brains have two chemical namely Dopamine and Acetylcholine. Dopamine is released when we took risks, meet new people, after eating chocolate etc. It's like a hit of energy. Extroverts like this but introverts are more sensitive to this. So because of this, they prefer the slow burning feel they get from Acetylcholine.

That's why they can concentrate more on minute things like art, music, writing than Extroverts. Most of introverts were artists, musicians and writers. They speak less but when they speak it will be powerful. They know when they should talk. They can deliver short and strong points. Mostly they don't involve in fights as they were the persons who deeply think and analyze before doing anything. They can understand others feelings easily.

When Extroverts are continuously being told that are more talkative, they will get irritated. The same way Introverts get irritated when they are repeatedly told that they are so quiet and shy. It's a inborn nature of them, not a deficiency. But because the society misunderstood them as dull, less attractive ,person with no taste and even joking on them as sage, they develop an inferiority complex.

But if you are an introvert you are not inferior to anyone. In fact you are special. You can do your duty perfectly in silence. You can make good friends. You can judge people correctly. You can concentrate on minute things that extroverts struggle. So don't consider yourself as inferior. Be yourself. The society should understand this fact that introverts are special in their own ways.

In this quarantine period, Introverts are more comfortable than Extroverts. They can happily spend their time by doing creative things. They don't need to be around people to get entertained. They have their own ways. If you are an introvert, don't consider this as a deficiency. This is your strength.

Introversion is not rare. A poll conducted by famous news channel shows that there are,
  • 71% of Introverts,
  • 23% of Ambiverts and
  • 6% of extroverts.
Don't try to change your individuality. Be yourself.
