                But after becoming an adult, we generally reduce the intake of snacks concerning our health. Those food items and snacks that we ate during our childhood days have not only taste and aroma associated with it but also some of our beautiful memories.

              In this blog, we tried to recollect some our childhood’s favorite food items and snacks that were very famous that time including 90s kids food and late 90s kids food. It’s obvious that we can’t able to eat or smell our favorite food items just by reading this blog but we can bring back our beautiful nostalgic memories. Let’s dig in.

Zoo Biscuits      


                                              

                          Biscuits have a special place in our childhood. We used to many types of biscuits such as Milk bikis, Tiger, Parle G, etc. Even now we eat biscuits but not so frequent as in our childhood.

                          In our childhood, we definitely ate the biscuits which are in the shape of Animals. It doesn’t have a unique name. Each of us used to call it with different names. But we call it as Zoo biscuit in our place.

                          It is famous not only for its taste but also for its shapes. Children used to buy and eat these biscuits because of their cute animal shapes. As a child I used to buy this when I return from school. Like this each of you will definitely have a beautiful memory with this biscuits. We are not sure whether these biscuits are still available. Bytes

            Generally, biscuits and chocolates are common types of snacks that children used to eat. But this snack named bytes is a unique snack that attracted children greatly in those days. Especially school going children used to buy and eat bytes regularly.

          It is like small packets made of biscuit filled with chocolate. Bytes is famous for its delicious chocolaty taste. It may be available now, but the craze it had among children in the past is unmatchable.

Poppins




             Candies are always a delight for kids. Especially, the candies which are sour and sweet at the same time are extensively loved by children. Poppins is one such candy. It is sour and sweet candy that has many fruit flavors. Usually separate pack is available for each flavors.

            But poppins is unique in the sense that it has different flavors in a single pack and each pack has different set of flavors. Each poppin has a different colour according to their fruit flavor like green for guava, yellow for banana, purple for grapes, etc. It is available even now but is not so popular like in those days.

Marbels

             Marbels is another unique candy like poppins that was famous in our childhood. It’s also sour and sweet in taste. It is a chewing candy with different fruit flavors. Children used to play with their friends on what colour they got in every pick from marbles packet.

           Those who ate marbles in their childhood will definitely recollect the taste of marbles by just reading this. We are not sure whether this is still available.

Ovaltine

        Children used to drink energy drinks instead of coffee and tea. We all know Boost and Horlicks as it is very famous. Most of us don’t know about Ovaltine as it is fairly old. But old is always gold right?

       I have tasted ovaltine when my tuition sir served me tea mixed with Oval. It’s extremely tasty. It was famous from 70s to early 90s. The children in that period are extremely lucky as they drank oval which is one of the best energy drinks. Oval is available rarely in some of the shops. If you find Oval in any shop, you should definitely buy and try it.

Naturo

                Naturo is a jelly candy that was famous in our childhood. During my school days, I used to buy this in huge numbers and especially the mango flavour is familiar among the kids.

              After hearing the name Naturo the most of us got recollected with the taste of mango flavor as it is extremely tasty. There are many other flavors such as guava, apple etc. If you want to taste naturo now you can buy it through amazon.

Maha lacto

                    Maha lacto was our go to birthday candy those days. Nowadays kids used to give bar chocolates and other candies, toffees for their birthdays but in 90s and early 2000 most of the kids prefer maha lacto as birthday chocolate.

                  It’s cheap and extremely tasty. Once maha lacto gave Ben 10 tattoos as freebie. That time, children used to buy maha lacto just for getting ben 10 tattoos. It creates nostalgic memories for us when we type this.

Aasai chocolate

                               As a 90s kid this aasai chocolate is a kind of elixir. As it was extremely cheap we used to buy this as bunch (25 paisa, 4 chocolates for 1rupee). The wrapper itself is enough to kindle our nostalgic memories.
               
                             The maha lacto, eclairs and aasai chocolates are all the products of nutrine. In those days, nutrine chocolates were most of the children’s birthday chocolates. While reading this most of you will have a flash of your childhood birthday moments in your mind.

Cumin candy (Jeeragamittai)





                    The picture itself reminds us about our childhood. Isn’t it? In our vernacular language it is named as jeeragamittaai. It’s also called by the name of lizard candy (palli mittaai). It is small candy made of cumin.
  
                  It is an excellent boredom candy. As a child we have a beautiful memory of fighting with our friends for this candy. Hope all those memories came to your mind after reading this.

Stretch candy (Javvu mittai)





       
                     Those who are in city may not know about this candy. But for those who born in village, it's something they never forget in their lives which is none other than the stretch candy. In vernacular language it was called as Javvu mittai.

                     It’s usually sold in village festivals where one grandpa will come and make a toy out of this variegated candy in the shape we ask for. Children used to make watches out of this candy and wear it. Those who had been in village festivals will definitely have a memory of stretch candy.

Apart from the above mentioned food items, there are many others such as Coffee bite chocolate, Mommy Daddy chocolate, Mint candy (sooda mittaai), Honey candy (then mittai), Colour puppets, etc.
