As we have been struggling to recover from Covid 19 so far the researchers from China have revealed that they discovered a new genetic variant of H1N1 virus which nothing but the viral disease which rattled India in 2009 called swineflu.
In this blog we tried to give you an insight about the recently emerging swine flu virus and is feared to have a pandemic potential.
Later scientists discovered vaccines and other remedial measures to ensure protection of the public.
A huge doubt arises what happened to that swineflu H1N1 virus and what is the need to talk about that?
Exactly 2 years later in 2011 the researchers in pig surveillance program found that a new strain of H1N1 virus called G4 HINI which is genetically descendent from the pre existing one.
On proceeding their survey in pig slaughter house the group of researchers had collected nearly 30,000 samples from the nasal passages of pigs from 2011 to 2018 and they found that nearly 179 strains of influenza H1N1 virus but a fair thing about this is not all the strains are posing evil effects.
But what if we have to worry means that the identified strains have the capability to become a pandemic just like Covid 19 and is also found to be zoonotic (spread from animal to human).
Another survey result from humans shows that nearly 4% of people from Hebei and Shandong provinces are tested positive with the G4 H1N1 virus.
From 2016 it have been found that it is multiplying and spreading at an alarming rate and nearly 10% of swine population is affected by this virus.
One of the concerned thing is that the pre existing vaccine for swine flu in 2009 does not work against the new swine flu G4 H1N1.

Recently in July 2020, two persons were tested positive for this G4 H1N1 virus which is the reason for sudden threat among people about this virus. But it's not new. It's there in pigs since 2016.
At that time 230 people were tested out of them 10 were tested positive. There is no trace of human to human transmission.
As of now, this G4 H1N1 virus have no Pandamic Potential. But it should not be left aside. For that only scientists are closely monitoring the infected pigs and people who are working closely to pigs.
People should not misinterpret that this virus is same like Covid-19 virus. In the case of Covid-19 virus, it is first identified in 2019 end and from there it has started to spread rapidly becoming a global pandemic.
But this G4 H1N1 virus was identified in 2016 itself. Inspite of having nearly 4 years exposure, this virus is not spreading in an alarming rate.
But once a virus is transmitted from animals to humans, it has the potential to spread between humans also. For this reason only this virus is closely monitored.
This G4 H1N1 virus has some relation with H1N1/09 virus of 2009 swine flu pandemic and some distant relationship with Flu pandemic in 1918.
One of the concerned thing is that the pre existing vaccine for swine flu in 2009 does not work against the new swine flu G4 H1N1.
As of now, it is not an immediate threat but it's unpredictable to say that this will not cause a pandemic in future also.
Spread and survival:
As like all of the viruses the G4 H1N1 also survive inside the cells of the host and replicate there.
