Mid season transfer- Will this work for Cricket?

                      

                   This year is different in many aspects due to Covid-19 pandemic. Just like this year, this year's IPL is also different in many aspects starting from the venue, an atmosphere without crowd, RCB is not playing like the "real" RCB (just joking), CSK is not playing with intent (till now), no vip boxes, third umpire calling no balls and so on.

                    As IPL has reached its halfway, a new buzz emerged for the previous few days which is nothing but "Mid season transfer". If you wonder what is this, then you might get an answer in this article. We also included our dream 11 team for today's match ( RCB vs KXIP).

What is this Mid season transfer?

                   Those who are following Baseball and Football, then this mid season transfer will be familiar. Now this practice is going to be followed in this edition of IPL.                   

                   There are always few players in each team who are underutilized and kept in the team just for their bench strength. These players may be great players but because of the team combination they are unlikely to get a chance in playing 11. But these players may be needed by other teams.                    

                   Inorder to make the tournament more competitive and make sure that all players get ample amount of opportunities, BCCI decided to bring the concept of mid season transfer in this year's IPL. This mid transfer window starts from yesterday.

What is the rules and regulations for the mid season transfer?

                  There are certain rules and regulations to follow while practicing this mid season transfer.                 

                  The player to be transferred from a team should not have played more than two games in the first half of the tournament.              

                  If a team requested a particular player from some other franchise, that player will be transferred only after the concerned team and that particular player accepts.                  

                  Here comes the most interesting rules. If a player is transferred to a new team, that player should not play against his old team (the team that hold the player in the first half of the tournament). For example, if Ajinkya Rahane is transferred to Chennai Super Kings, he will not be allowed to play the match against Delhi Capitals.               

                  The player will not be transferred to a new team permanently. He will be sent back to the team that had him priorly after the completion of this year IPL.

What are players who are eligible for mid season transfer in each franchises and what will be the possible transfers that might strengthen each teams? 

Chennai Super Kings

               In CSK the following players are eligible for mid season transfer.              

              Imran Tahir, Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Santner, N Jagadheesan, Sai Kishore, Monu Kumar, Rutraj Gaikwad and KM Asif.             

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: CSK need a quality middle order batsman as Jadhav is not in good touch. So they can try for Ajinkya Rahane from Delhi Capitals. They can also try for Chris Lynn from MI as they are lacking a destructive top order batsman.

Mumbai Indians

              Mumbai Indians have a good bench strength. The players eligible for mid season transfer in MI are,             

              Chris Lynn, Nathan Coulter Nile, Aditya Tare, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jayant Yadav, Anmolpreet Singh, Prince Balwant Rai, Mitchell McChlenaghan, Dig Vijay deshmukh and Mohsin khan.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: They can try for Mohammad Nabi from SRH as they are lacking a good off spinner. 

Delhi Capitals

               Delhi Capitals also have a good bench strength. The following players are eligible for mid season transfer in Delhi Capitals.              

               Alex Carey, Ajinkya Rahane, Keamo Paul, Sandeep Lamicchane, Mohit Sharma, Lalit Yadav, Daniel Sams and Tushar Deshpande.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: They are almost balanced in all departments. They can try for Aditya Tare from MI as they are lacking a Indian wicketkeeping batsman who will be a backup to Rishabh Pant. We all know Rishabh Pant is injured. For this reason they are forced to drop the inform Hetmyer and picked Alex Carey in their last match against MI.

Rajasthan Royals

              The players eligible for mid season transfer in RR are,             

              Varun Aaron, Oshane Thomas, Mayank Markande, Andrew Tye, Akash Singh,   Anuj Rawat, Anirudha Joshi, David Miller, Manipal Lomroor, Manan Vohra and Shashank Singh.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: Their team is balanced but not performing greatly so far. 

Kings XI Punjab

               The following players are eligible for mid season transfer in KXIP.             

               Chris Gayle, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hardus Viljoen, Murugan Ashwin, Phrabsimran Singh, Harpreet Brar, Mandeep Singh, Jagadheesa Sujith, Darshan Nalkhande, Tajinder Singh, Ishal Porel, Krishnappa Gowtam and Deepak Hooda.

Possible transfer that strengthen the team: They are lacking a good lower order batsman so they can try for David Miller from RR.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

                  Sunrisers Hyderabad have the following players who are eligible for mid season transfer are,                  

                  Mohammad Nabi, Wriddhiman Saha, Siddharth Kaul, Virat Singh, Bavanaka Sandeep, Fabian Allen, Sanjay Yadav, Billy Stanlake, Basil Thampi, Shahbaz Nadeem.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: They can also try for David Miller from RR as they are lacking a destructive lower order batsman like Ben cutting who contributed very well to SRH when they won trophy in 2017.

Kolkata Knight Riders

                  The following players are eligible for mid season transfer in KKR.                 

                  Tom Banton, Nikhil Naik, Ali Khan, Rinku Singh, Sandeep Warrier, Siddhesh Lad, Chris Green, Lockie Ferguson, M Siddharth.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: They have a balanced team. The only thing is that they have to identify the correct team combination. There is no need for them to go for a transfer.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

                     RCB has the following players who are available for mid season transfer.                    

                     Josh Philippe, Dale Steyn, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pavan Deshpande, Adam Zampa, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Moeen Ali, Parthiv Patel, Pawan Negi and Umesh Yadav.

Possible transfer that might strengthen the team: RCB also lacking a destructive lower order batsman. They can try Alex Carey from DC or David Miller from RR.

These are the facts about the mid season transfer that BCCI introduced this year. So far none of the teams are interested in transferring their players. The latest news is that CSK is not interested in transferring their players and also approaching players from other teams. Let's see whether this mid season transfer will work in IPL or not.

Today's match is happening in Sharjah. You can wonder why took this many bowlers for a match that is happening in Sharjah. That too from RCB. The reason is that Sharjah wicket became slowish now compared to the start of the tournament. So bowlers can dominate in the second half of the match. I selected majority of the bowlers from RCB because they have done pretty well. So I expect that they will dominate in today's game as well. Let's see.
