In this article, we decided to do the analysis of one of the most popular franchises in Indian premier League, Chennai Super Kings team's batting line up. CSK played three matches and lost two consecutive matches which is a rare case. It's time for CSK to regroup, especially their batting line up.
We have already posted Squad analysis of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Let's all enter the 'anbuden' of CSK to know about what they have in store this year for batting.
M S Dhoni
The captain cool of CSK also contributed to CSK in batting and made CSK to win many matches by finishing them in his own life. His aggressive batting is nightmare for many bowlers even now. He is still fit enough to take quick singles between the wickets as in t20 cricket as running between the wickets is also equally important as hitting boundaries. He has a slight weakness for wide Yorkers and slower ones. He is not the same old Dhoni in the three matches CSK played but it is expected that he will definitely hit more balls out of the park and also expected to come up the order in the upcoming matches.
Strength : Aggressive batting and finishing innings. Picking Yorkers and full length deliveries and hitting them out of the park.
Weakness : Slightly difficult for him to play wide Yorkers and slower ones. Also has a weakness against leg spinners.
Suresh Raina:
Chennai super kings obviously missed the presence of Chinna thala Suresh Raina I'm the last season IPL. Hope that we will witness the vintage Mr IPL in this year IPL season.
Strength : Ability to take quick singles between the wickets, Excellent fielding, Power hitting ability
Weakness : In the past he faced some issues on the short balls and might have a chance of losing his wicket while playing across the stumps.
Faf Du Plessis
This South African Skipper has contributed more to CSK's batting line up over these years. He gained fame only after playing for CSK. He has been to CSK batting lineup till now. He is the only player who played well in the three matches CSK played this year. He understood his role pretty well and played an anchor role but unfortunately due to Rayudu's missing in the last two matches, he was not able to favour a win for CSK. If he play like this throughout the season, then it will be a great for CSK. But it's also important that someone player should support faf.
Strength: Consistency and experience. Strong against seamers.
Weakness: He has a slight weakness against spinners especially leg spinners.
Ambati Rayudu
In the absence of Suresh Raina, Rayudu is expected to fill his shoes before starting of the season and he did that really well in their first match against Mumbai Indians. He played with shear confidence and delivered a match winning innings. But unfortunately due to hamstring injury, he missed the next two matches which became a huge loss for CSK. Dhoni himself mentioned after their last match against Delhi Capitals that Rayudu's absence impacted the team's batting performance. He is player who can bat aggressively as well as sensibly. As he seems to be in great touch, he is expected to the regain the lost charm of CSK's batting line up as he is expected to be available for their next match against SRH.
Strength: Mix of aggression and calmness.
Weakness: He has slight weakness against pace and he is not good against lateral movement.
Ruturaj Gaikwad
In this IPL, many young players comes with great reputation and straight away they are taken in playing 11. Rutraj Gaikwad is one among the exciting youngsters who had a great domestic season recently. He was the second highest run getter in Syed Mustaq Ali trophy. He was given a chance in the last two games but he not played to his potential. But he will definitely perform in upcoming matches.
Strength: Ability to play sensibly and consistently (not seen so far) and has good fielding ability.
Weakness: Probably pressure handling.
Narayan Jagadheesan
Jagadheesan is a talented wicket keeping batsman from Tamilnadu. He is in CSK since 2018 but not yet picked so far. He was taken as a backup wicket keeper. He has good domestic record in recent years. As Sam billings is not in the squad, he will be given chance in the absence of Dhoni.
Strength: Good wicket keeper , Quick running between the wickets
Weakness: Not a great striker of the ball.
Ravindra Jadeja
This man is phenomenal with batting, bowling and especially on the fielding. His improvements in the batting department is obvious and it hopefully be the positive sign for the CSK side this year too...
Strength : Ability to finish the innings with bat
Weakness : Slightly expensive with the ball as of T20 standards
